What can you say, really, about such an abysmal home stand?
It was disappointing and draining...and that was just game one. I don't know how Pete sat through five losses in a row. By the time the Crew reached the two final Cubs games - the ones I got to attend - it was downright devastating.
Here are a few quotes from the MLB.com website on Thursday's game:
"We got spanked," Yost said.
"We got our [rear ends] kicked," Bush said.
"I'm pretty much embarrassed," Braun said.
"We got schooled," Gagne said.
True, true, true and true.
But here's what I'm trying to keep in mind:
- It is only the end of July.
- We beat the Cubs on their home turf, too.
- Everybody is entitled to a few off days...though it seriously stinks that ours came all in a row.
- There's nothing like total humiliation to light a fire for the days ahead (or, start us spiraling out of control...but let's not go there).
Most important: At least all those damn Cubs fans are now out of our stadium for a while. Man, are they bad - with a few exceptions, there's just no class and little respect. I have to admit I was impressed with how the Cubs played, but their obnoxious fans far outweigh any lasting admiration I could have for the team. If we had to have them here any more often, I'd seriously consider quitting baseball.
But now they're gone. We're moving on to a new series. Hope starts over again.
I have to keep reminding myself...the Brewers are talented, but such a young and volatile team. I just wish that weren't showing so much.
First of all thast may be a rather broad generalization about Cubs fans. Secondly, fans tend to get rowdier and more vocal when they are on away territory. Trust me, I remember going to many Bears v Packers games at Soldier field in the 90's when the Packers owned the series, and it definitely seemed that the large number of Packer fans there were obnoxious. Were they? Yes probably. Was I over reacting? Yes probably.
On a related note you may also want to check out this link. Interesting to find it here and I think it backs up much of what I said.
