When I started this blog, I committed to going to all the home games and writing about them.
The thing is, it turns out I'm not a halfway girl. I have to either throw myself into the baseball season wholeheartedly or not watch at all.
So last night, like most away-game nights, I listened to part of the game on the radio and watched the rest on TV. And I have to admit, in some ways I like doing that better than going to the ballpark.
Of course, nothing compares to kettle corn and the cheer of the crowd. But I usually learn something from the radio/TV announcers, and I like that.
For instance, I've always wondered why Bill Hall doesn't like Guillermo Mota. He's never said that, of course, but when Mota finishes warming up, Hall always whips the ball at him like he's trying to hit him.
Turns out, that's a Mota superstition. No matter who's on third base, that person has to throw to Mota as hard as he possibly can before Mota throws the first pitch. Always been that way.
See? I love details like that. And while it's possible somebody sitting near me at the ballpark could lean over and mention it, the odds are better I'll hear it from Uecker or Jim Powell.
So I'm OK with the team being on the road. And tonight at 6:05, you can count on me to be sitting by the radio or in front of the TV, listening and learning. I'm looking forward to another win.
