Here's what I hated about the game today - losing. Surrounded by Cardinals fans. Can't they just stay home and watch the game on TV like everyone else? The entire stadium was full of red.
I also hated seeing Corey not only drop a ball but run at the wrong time. I count on him to be the one steady thing.
Here's what I liked: Chatting during the game with the guys over at Brew Crew Ball. It's like getting the running TV commentary, only on the laptop. And funnier. And much more sarcastic.
My qualms about booing came up again, too. But I was on the other side this time: I would have happily booed Turnbow. If I hadn't been drowned out by the Cards who were cheering that he was in.
The whole thing is fascinating and frustrating. Have I mentioned: I love my summer of baseball.
HOLY JUXTAPOSITION, BATMAN!
So I'm home. Drinking a glass of wine. Trying to figure out exactly what happened at today's game.
(My Afternoon Redux: Leave meeting and see it's 8-3. Check TV and see it's now 8-8. Another meeting. Then Ryan Braun is talking on "In My Words" on FSN, and I go to the Internets to see that we pulled it out.)
Anyhoo, as I'm reading about how Gabe Gross drew a walk and stole second (outwitting the Pujols second base move by LaRussa), I see on MLB.com - on the same page - a headline showing that Gabe Gross was traded to the Rays.
And guess what? For ANOTHER pitcher.
Sigh.
I love this team's starting pitching. And can't stand all of the rest of it. And have to confess an affinity for Mr. Gross.
Sigh.
Well, a win's a win. And I'm sure there is someone in the front office who knows what they're doing. Right? Right? Again, sigh.
Time for another glass of wine, enjoying our first spring night in the porch, and savoring a much-needed Brewers win (trying to modify my cost-benefit equation and focus a little more energy on the wins, per my earlier post...).
Go Crew.

A related thought to your entry - the cost-benefit analysis of being a sports fan.
It has been pointed out to me (by my better half) that when the Brewers (or any of my teams, for that matter) win - I derive very little pleasure. It's the logical conclusion of what I "expect" should happen. Let's call that a +5 benefit.
Now for the hard part. Losing. Boy, does that hurt. Especially when you just put up two runs in the top of the tenth. But no matter how it happens, losing stinks. Let's call that a -25 cost. That's right: 5x the possible benefit.
Which leads to the logical question: Why bother? Why waste our time with this pastime at all?
Well, that's a topic for a future post, or perhaps blog entry altogether (I'm long overdue for that...). For now, let's just say that I'm hungry for a +5 today to wipe the past two messes off the books.
Here's hoping that today the Brewers don't continue to put the "loser" in "closer."
Game on.
